Retirement Plans

Offering a retirement plan helps you attract the best talent in the business and invest in employees that work hard to make your company successful.

In today’s marketplace, a good retirement plan can make all the difference in attracting and holding on to talented employees. To help you stay competitive, Webster Investments offers a wide range of retirement plans that can be designed to meet your unique needs.

Here’s an overview of some of the most common Retirement Plans:

For sole proprietors and small businesses, SEP IRAs are a simple and relatively inexpensive way to offer a retirement plan.

This employer-funded plan has benefits like:

  • No mandatory or minimum contributions
  • Tax-deductible contributions and tax-deferred growth potential
  • No complicated forms to fill out or annual IRS reports to file

Keep in mind, SEP needs to cover all eligible employees, including part-time employees over the age of 21 who have earned at least $500 within the last year and have worked 3 of the last 5 years.

If your business has fewer than 100 employees, SIMPLE IRAs may be right for your business. It’s flexible and easy-to-administer, and has minimal costs.

This retirement plan is funded by both the employee and employer, and benefits may include:

  • Tax advantages for contributions made on behalf of employees
  • Tax credits for certain plan expenses
  • Minimal administrative needs

While there is no minimum employee contribution, the employer needs to fully match the first 3% of deferred compensation or 2% of all eligible employee compensation.

Solo 401(k)

Ideal for owner-only businesses who want to save more money than most other plans allow, this inexpensive plan allows you to build your retirement, while potentially cutting your annual tax bill.

With this retirement plan, you can take advantage of:

  • No mandatory or minimum contributions
  • Higher contribution limits
  • Salary deferral and profit-sharing to fund retirement

Solo 401(k) plans are only open to business owners with no other full-time employees, though spouses and equal business partners are able to participate.

The most popular of all employer-sponsored retirement plans, 401(k) plans offer the flexibility of funding by the employee alone, or by a combination of employee and employer contributions.

This plan offers benefits like:

  • No mandatory or minimum contributions
  • Tax advantages for contributions to employees’ accounts
  • The choice to make employee contributions, or not
